Governor Ibikunle Amosun of Ogun State is one of Nigeria’s best dressed state chief executives. Apart from wearing stylish attire made out of local fabrics, he has a unique way of wearing his cap. Referred to in certain quarters as the “long-thinking” cap, the look has come to be associated with Amosun. The style which dates back many years has been copied by many including the governor’s aides.
Former World Bank Vice-President, Dr. Oby Ezekwesili’s style is simple and uncomplicated. In spite of the fact that she is not overly trendy, her style is a sight for sore eyes.
Over the years, she has always favoured the ankara, adire and batik fabrics in different shades and hues. Former Lagos State Governor and national leader of the All Progressives Congress, Bola Tinubu, owns his style. A lover of native wear in colours that sit well on him, he is in the habit of wearing caps that have the same style of embroidery.
The style has gained prominence in the social and political circles. The caps made famous by no less a person than Tinubu, remains one of the most popular style choices made by a politician in Nigeria.
A promoter of less is more, Tinubu’s style choices make him stand out in a good way.
In a similar vein, she easily brings to notice her love for ofi or aso oke fabrics. Sometimes, she stylishly combines them with Ankara, to complete her look.
Even though Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State is not keen on being a trendsetter, he has been able to develop a style that is unique to him. He never goes anywhere without sporting his signature muffler made from luxurious silk fabrics.
The multi-billionaire businessman, education philanthropist and politician who favours traditional wear and red caps, has mufflers in different colours.
In Ondo State and beyond, Olusegun Mimiko is known for his trademark “round head-fitting” cap which is fondly referred to as the ‘Awo’ cap. He is hardly seen without this style of cap . His favourite colours are red and black. Governor Mimiko is a man who loves to wear traditional attire and favours indigenous fabrics.
Osun State Governor, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, has a style that speaks confidence. His signature look is founded on his love for white outfits. This is in addition, his exceptional way of wearing his cap. Even though his mode of dressing is devoid of any form of flamboyance, his fashion has yet to evade notice.
Apart from having a peculiar haircut that makes him look younger than he actually is, Anambra State Governor, Willie Obiano’s love for monochrome bowler hats cannot be ignored. The very trendy governor, who mostly wears two-button suits and regarded as one of Nigeria’s most stylish governors, is known for his dapper appearance.
Edo State Governor, Adams Oshiomhole’s love for his trademark khaki has remained with him since his days as a labour leader. A former National Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress, trademark khaki is reminiscent of his days as an activist. He once said he would continue to wear khaki as Governor because “it is the attire of the common man”, but in recent times, he has been sporting stylish suits in lovely colours, especially the electric blue shade.
Governor Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa State, loves to wear traditional robes which he accessorises with beads and his signature bowler hat. His attire is never complete without his bowler hats which he has in so many colours even though he prefers his black bowler hats.
The Minister of Labour and Employment, Senator Chris Ngige is known for his trademark beard and jaunty cap. He hardly steps out without his jaunty caps which come in black. He makes quite a statement with this signature look that oozes simplicity.
